Compact Spud Lifting Mechanism

Naval Architecture and Marine Solutions (NMS) were commissioned to develop a compact spud lifting mechanism, which can be easily attached or removed, from a vessel as necessary. The ability to add or remove this spud system considerably enhances the roles that a barge or barge system can be utilised.

The ergonomic design of the system benefits the operator, as they are not required to lift or insert pins manually. By locating the hydraulic controls adjacent to the unit, the spud system can be operated by a single crew member.

When the vessel is in position to complete its tasks, for example dredging, the spud is lowered into the sea bed and becomes a rigid anchoring system, holding the vessel in position.

Our animation video on YouTUBE shows the spud mechanism in operation.
